Altered State

Altered State is a J-RPG using the state of matter as main mechanic
We had 3 weeks to create a game with an RPG feature.
The theme was impossible space.
With a JRPG turn-based system for the combat and a top-down isometric view for the exploration.
We came up with Altered State.

First thing first

Overall, the project went very well.

We didn't encounter any major problems that required us to considerably reduce our scope.

Team choice

The Level Design put us a little behind schedule, as the first version was too big, but we discussed during a review and in no time we were able to find a compromise to reduce the size without losing any gameplay elements.

When the crit don't crit

In tech, the turn-based combat system took longer than expected, but soon enough our programmer came to talk to me about it and together we found a solution.

By focusing our efforts on what we wanted to show the Jury, we met the deadline and delivered a work we're all proud of.

Big team

My biggest challenge during this workshop was to establish a climate of exchange and communication within the team.For most of us, it was the first time we'd worked with a team of this size.
